Normally, his birthday's were quiet affairs. A few of the pack, the ones that didn't actually mind him hanging around,Marc, and their parents. It seemed to be the same thing for this one as well, though the young omega couldn't keep his gaze from the older beta. More so since he'd seen fit to bring his date of the week, and the guys seemed more interested in snickering at them and sneaking off to drink whenever they thought they'd get away with it.
Resisting the urge to huff as,finally, the small party wound down and the older wolves told him to sit down before sliding a cake in front of him. The icing, naturally, his favorite colors as the older male, the alpha, clapped his hands against a few of the boys shoulders. Making them sing, something the omega knew he only did when he wanted them to pay attention, probably thinking the sad looks he was tossing them was because he felt left out of their roughhousing.
"Happy birthday, cathykins!"The older female offered, all smiles as she rubbed his back. "Make a wish and then well eat ok?" The words were met with a helpless stare at Marc, watching as he laughed at his dates whisper in his ear, before attention turned to him. Biting his lip, he turned his gaze toward the flickering candles for a long moment. Ignoring the chatter around him as everyone moved to grab plates, and poke at presents they wouldn't stick around to see his reactions to getting.Squeezing his eyes shut, his thoughts turned toward the beta as he wished, hoped, prayed.
Nobody noticed the lights flicker when he opened them again.
~~ Stretching, Cath yawned as he drifted toward the kitchen. Bleary eyed and still half asleep as he rummaged through the fridge for a moment. Barley glancing at the beta standing by the sink, or that he was staring from the second he came in. Instead, Cath was more focused on soothing his growling stomach. Toast dangling from his mouth as he rifled through cabinets for jam.
"Have you always smelled so good?"Marc's voice rumbled above him when he'd sat down. Confused, he jumped a little, attention turning toward the older male as he squinted at him. "You smell amazing today, is all."The older offered, shrugging as he frowned at him. Blinking at him,Cath made a face, thinking it was a build up to some kind of joke and rolled his eyes. "Yer not funny."He grumbled, turning his attention back to his breakfast.
"..Wasn't trying to be."He,barley, heard the other grumble before they were both darting off toward the bus.
~~ Strangely enough, he'd assumed that would have been the end of the beta's torment. Given the other, mostly, left him alone during school hours. Except every time he'd turned around the older was staring at him as if confused and upset, and Cath couldn't help the small, unsure flutters inside him. There was no way Marc was finally noticing him...was there?
"Hey. Hey Cath. Can I sit here?"The other greeted him as he jogged up,blinking down at him as Cath settled into his normal table, as far from the other's as he could get. Being friendly was, generally, met with sneers from his classmates so the omega had tended to stick to being by himself or the boys when they were feeling generous. So the other requesting to sit with him was...new. Strange.
"..If ye wan'?"He answered warily. Tensing as the beta swung around to sit next to him. Half expecting his head to be shoved in his food, or the other to noogie him like he normally did. Or any manner of things, really. Instead, all the older did was...sit and eat. Confused, Cath stared a moment until the other glanced over and offered him a wide grin.
"What, do I have something on my face, dude?"He questioned, frowning and reaching up. Hesitating, Cath shook his head. "Ye usually sit with yer mates s'all."He pointed out slowly. The other snickered a little and shook his head. "They can handle an entire lunch period without me."
~~ The older wolfs strange behavior continued through the week. Marc staring at him at home like he was confused, questioning when he looked good, or smelled good. Or simply staring openly. It was enough to make even him flustered, thinking it was some kind of weird joke the other was trying and clearly failing.
It wasn't until he'd claimed he'd needed air, had left to wander around the block, that he'd heard the other shouting his name and running after him. "Cath wait!"Marc shouted, running after him and something snapped inside him."What? Wha ye wan' now? Ta push me in the bleedin' lake,to do something aw-"His rant was cut off by the beta's mouth on his own.
Oh. Oh.. The fluttery, excited feelings flooded him after a moment and he drew back, gaze wide. "Ye..wha'?"He questioned, confused. Elated. The beta, however, was to busy nuzzling along his neck, whining slightly at the omega's scent he was picking up. Biting his lip, Cath reached to draw the other's mouth down again, relaxing when the brightened and looked pleased at this arrangement.
~~ It seemed like a dream. The other's fingers intertwined with his own as they wandered the halls, chatting animatedly about some party. Kissing him whenever he bleeding wanted. The small group barley batted an eye, even when he'd lain his head on the beta's shoulder during lunch, though the other's former date, girlfriend, only seemed to sour whenever Cath clambered into his lap, or playfully tried to feed him with a giggle.
